Founded in 1957, Henan University of Animal Husbandry and Economy is a provincial public higher education institution, approved by the ministry of Education and organized by Henan people's government. It is a pilot school for transformation and development of higher education institution in Henan province. The University is located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province in the central area of China with superior geographical location, profound cultural heritage and beautiful natural environment.

Now there are more than 32000 full-time students studying in the university. There are 17 colleges and departments, a college of international education and a school of continuing education in the university, covering agriculture, engineering, management and other disciplines. It has 63 undergraduate majors and and 64 junior college majors. It has 2 national teaching reform pilot programs, 4 provincial comprehensive reform pilot programs, 13 provincial characteristic programs and 3 provincial first-class undergraduate programs.

The school has more than 1,800 faculty and staff, including 1,258 teachers with doctor’s or master's degrees, and 365 double-qualified teachers. It has 15 teachers enjoying special subsidies from the state council and winning state-level tiles such as the national candidates for the "10 million talents project", the state-level famous teachers, the state-level prominent teachers.

The University has excellent teaching conditions and beautiful teaching environment covering a total area of 2112 mu. The construction area is 1.05 million square meters. It has more than 200 professional laboratories and off-campus training bases. The value of teaching equipment amounts to over 218 million RMB. The library has a collection of 2.3 million volumes of literature, 1164 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals.

The school is actively expanding their horizons, advancing international cooperation. It has established cooperative relations with more than 60 universities and research institutes in 28 countries and regions, including the United States, Australia and Ireland. It has one Chinese-foreign cooperatively-running school (junior college), 1 sino-foreign undergraduate cooperative program of the Ministry of Education and 3 sino-foreign undergraduate cooperative program of Henan province. It has established 3 International research cooperation platforms as well as 1 national and regional research centre—Irish research centre, which has been recorded by the Ministry of Education.
